At Gehl Foods, the quality and safety of our food products and dispensers is our top priority.
Our aseptic process ensures the sterilization of the food we produce, and our methods are recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe. We’re proud of our strong record on food safety: In Gehl Foods’ more than 120 years of providing high quality foods, we have never had to recall a food product.
We’re committed to upholding this standard and continuing to provide the highest-quality products to our customers. Learn more below.
What does Gehl’s Quality Assurance team do?
Gehl Foods operates a pharmaceutical level of Quality Assurance, featuring comprehensive records of every processing maneuver in our facility.
During a production run, our experienced Quality Assurance team continually pulls samples of the product for a complete testing program to verify standards have been met. These operating procedures allow us to troubleshoot against potential product variances, ensuring the same high-quality product every time.
Upon finishing a run, our Quality Assurance and Food Safety teams test samples of every single product through incubation periods to ensure a consistent, great-tasting product that is safe for consumption.
During bottle production, we test 100% of products. Nobody else does that. If the product doesn’t meet our standards, it won’t be released. We are strict about food safety because we know the importance of food safety for all our customers.
Why does Gehl Foods only make aseptic foods?
Aseptic means we eliminate 100% of the potential foodborne pathogens—bacteria and germs—that can compromise food safety and degrade quality. By packaging our products aseptically, we also preserve their fresh flavor, so we can avoid the use of preservatives. Unlike refrigerated and frozen products, you can trust Gehl’s products to be completely safe, sterile, and ready to eat when first opened.
Does Gehl Foods meet industry standards for quality control?
Yes. Gehl Foods follows the strict guidelines specified in the FDA Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Part 113, on thermally processed low-acid foods packaged in hermetically sealed containers.
Along with our food preparation and sterilization guidelines being recognized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe, our high-quality aseptic manufacturing has led to numerous other quality control approvals including:
- Kosher and Halal
- BRC Global Standards
- USDA Organic
- Gluten Free
Dispensers and supporting equipment
Cleaning and maintaining properly functioning dispensers and other supporting equipment is of the utmost importance in order to preserve the integrity of our products.
Gehl’s dispensers heat and dispense our aseptic packages to optimal serve-safe temperatures for 3-7 days, while sealing airborne contaminants out. Detailed cleaning, maintenance and food handling instructions are located on the inside of every Gehl’s dispenser.
According to federal food safety regulations, once opened, cheese sauces and other products must be kept heated at a minimum internal temperature of 140 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure safety. All food vendors are expected to clean and maintain their dispensers and food cooking devices to ensure safety. It is also imperative for food vendors to ensure they are heating food in compliance with federal food code as well as state and local regulations.
